Forget all the recent Champions League upsets, Celtic have now highlighted just how unpredictable football is by releasing photos of their new 2012/13 kit which is, wait for it, er, green and white hoops.

Right, well it may not be much of a creative leap, but the new kit is rather nice  and it also references the Glasgow giants’ upcoming 125th anniversary year. The Nike kit features nine green and white hoops, as opposed to the usual seven, in tribute to the club’s famous nine-in-a-row titles won in the 60s and 70s. The Tennant’s logo is also refreshingly subtle.

The black socks and club crest, bordered by a Celtic knot, also reference the club’s history. Bloody hell, I’m starting to sounds like someone on QVC.  Anyway, Celtic bigwig Peter Lawwell said:

“Once again we are delighted with the fantastic design which our kit supplier Nike has developed.”

“We have been grateful to enjoy a strong relationship with Nike, such a successful global sports brand. This has been a hugely beneficial partnership for the club and our supporters and it is one we hope to continue for some time.”

Check out the pictures of a rather hunky looking Georgios Samaras and a less hunky looking Adam Matthews modelling the new kit.

Nice to finally see a kit where the sponsor doesn’t completely overshadow the design!

  2. Inno says:

Love the teeny tiny sponsor. Not that it matters, most people will get it without sponsors :P

  3. Jarren says:

You sure this isn’t the photoshoot for the Autumn / Winter 2012 Kays catalogue?

It’s the campest New Kit Photoshoot I’ve seen for a while.

  4. Grant says:

It might just be me, but I love the fact that whenever Nike launches a kit, they produce footballs that perfectly encapsulate the kit as well. Just like they did with the new U.S. kit. Fantastic.

  5. Al says:

it is just you Grant, putting colours on footballs isn’t exciting or fantastic. Personally, (and I’m kind of a Celtic fan) I think the kit is horrible, the shirt is shapeless and the black socks ruin the whole thing pluss Samaras has the dodgiest hair in football

  6. Cosa says:

Kit looks great and the sponsor is fantastic

  7. KingEric7 says:

It does seem a bit baggy, but then considering the average Glaswegian’s diet consists primarily of fermented barley that’s probably no bad thing. I think they should do the “hoops” in the style of a Celtic rope, just to mix it up a bit.

  8. WildScotsman6 says:

aye, they needed to stick someone like Scott Brown on there to model it and not give Sammy a top two sizes to big! haha! But I do like the top and the small sponsor print. ‘MON THE HOOPS!!

  9. Del says:

    It’s a pretty nice kit. ;)

  10. Marvin says:

It doesn’t have green and white hoops. It is a white shirt with green horizontal stripes. Entirely new and innovative!

what happened to the celtic tri/colour shirt that was displayed last month it was a great looking shirt

  12. Hoopfan says:

Just seen this kit in person and have to say it looks a hundred times better these pictyres make it look to baggy
