Soccer - Edgar Davids

Barnet player-coach Edgar Davids has declared that he will be wearing the “No.1” jersey in midfield for the non-league side next season as he plans to start a trend, having already worn the number throughout the Bees’ pre-season so far.

“That is my number for the season,” Davids told the Barnet Times. “I am going to start this trend.”

Why? Because he’s Edgar f**king Davids, that’s why!

Davids’ hardly ground-breaking new trend has seen Barnet’s first-choice goalkeeper, Graham Stack, bumped down to the No.29 jersey for next term, though he’s not particularly arsed, telling the Times: “Squad numbers mean nothing to me and I’ve had a few over the years. So it is not an issue for me. Edgar Davids has asked to wear number one, he asked me what number I want and I said I didn’t mind.”

So there you go. All’s well that ends stupid.

I am actually in love with Edgar Davids

    • Chris says:

@R-Man: Good news, Pies are starting a support hotline for those so infatuated with EFD that they can’t go about their lives properly anymore.

  2. DoodleMaster says:

Chris, why does Edgar Davis wear sun glasses?

  3. JJ says:

@Chris….LOVE his new intitals of EFD, ahahahaha, quality Chris…Gotta admit, I love Barnet FC even more because of this Legend of the game there.
    @DoodleMaster:Really?

  4. El G-taco says:

Finally! I’ve been waiting for this for years. Edgar is the mainest of the men!

  5. Sjakie Meulemans says:

@DoodleMaster: To enhance his image of coolness. Didn’t you know? He’s started a trend with it, many years ago.

  6. Mitsmann says:

Sorry lads, but PANTELIS KAFES played in PAOK, Olympiakos, AEK Athens, and national team of Greece played with number 1 as a midfield for more than ten years.

So, go tell Davids to start a trend wearing a scuba diving mask or something.

  7. David says:

Another instance of number 1 playing not necessarily as ‘keepers. Argentina in 1978 played with the 22 players in alphabetical order. Starting with Alonso with number 1 and finishing with Villa in number 22.

  8. porcelain sandwich says:

Also, I painted a 1 on my back and played as a striker in the park. Very few kids followed suit.

  9. David Macbeth says:

I’m glad EFD has stayed on and will continue to play. As well as being an interesting character and a good leader he still has a lot to offer as a player. Over on the football forum website he was named in the League 2 fans team of the year.

  10. Tom the bees fan says:

    hahaha Barnet Legend!
    Cos he’s Edgar f**king Davids
cant wait for the start of the season. We may be out of the league but we are still going to have some entertainment this season.

  11. Temporary Toon Dart says:

    Shouldn’t it be FED?

  12. Herman says:

What an utter twat. Number 1 is for goalkeepers. Not dwarf midfielders.

  13. David is correct: Argentina continued this convention of alphabetic numbering at th ’82 World Cup, where Osvaldo Ardiles wore the number 1 shirt. The goalkeeper Fillol wore number 7.
