As happens from time to time, Independiente Santa Fe travelled 90-odd miles across up the road for their recent Colombian Primera Division A game against Boyaca Chico having forgotten to pack their away strip.

Instead the Santa Fe kitman had mistakenly loaded bins full of the club’s red home kit onto the coach before setting out.

Now, normally this wouldn’t be a problem. Indeed, we saw Millwall having to wear Sheffield Wednesday’s away kit after forgetting to pack their kit for their recent trip to Hillsborough. In theory, there is an obvious and simple method to avoid creating an issue.

However, unfortunately for Santa Fe, opponents Boyaca Chico had no intention of playing in anything other than their home strip, flat out refusing to turn out in their away strip so Santa Fe could wear the red home kit they’d brought with them.

Pressed into rigging up a bodged-together solution, Santa Fe attempted to play the first half wearing their dark grey training tops with the players’ squad numbers stuck on the back with white surgical tape – as can be seen above.

Although they went in at half-time 0-1 up, Santa Fe’s rigged kit was failing them, with sweat causing their numbers to fall off left, right and centre.

Thankfully, their kitman had been able to source a team’s worth of counterfeit Santa Fe replica shirts from the local market in Tunja during the first 45 minutes of the game, buying 10 knock-off jerseys at 12,000 pesos (about £4) a piece along with one big, red, chisel-tip marker to scrawl the players’ numbers on the back.

Having worked solidly for the 15-minute break, Santa Fe emerged from the tunnel looking like this…

All this before going on to add a second goal and win the game 0-2, which seems like a fitting two fingers up at Boyaca Chico for acting like prissy little madams in the first place!
