Before reportedly deleting Tweets which read “are you joking?” and “something has gone seriously wrong at Puma’s design department”, Halmstad defender Jesper Westerberg composed himself long enough to post a photo of the Swedish club’s new 2015 away jersey.

As pointed out by the man himself, it does have a certain air of the “teenage mutant ninja heroes in a half-shell” about it…

“This year’s away shirt! Some comments? Because I have a lot in store …”

A bemused Westerberg later told Aftonbladet:

“When I came to training in the morning the kit man wanted to show me something.

“Then he showed me that shirt. And he wasn’t joking. There was a whole box of them!

“It was a shock to see it. It is difficult to picture, but I am sure it will be okay with the crest and sponsor.

The right-back also queried the perplexing choice of colour, adding:

“We’re normally not that green (Halmstad’s traditional club colours are blue and black).

“Personally you’d want something that represents the club. I don’t know, we are not that green really.

“We have blue, white and black. We used to at least. A white away kit and one completely black.

“The last few years we have had neon green, neon yellow and now this … let’s see what we get next year.”

Very 1980’s-inspired. Is it wrong that we quite like it?
