When Bayern Munich take to the field for this Saturday’s home game against Hoffenheim, they will do so wearing a very special version of their kit.
In conjunction with Adidas and marine conservation foundation Parley, the Bundesliga giants are set to play in a unique red strip made entirely from plastic ocean debris.

The eco-conscious shirts are constructed top-to-bottom from plastic detritus washed up on the coast of the Maldives, which was recycled into mesh fibres.
Speaking at the grand unveiling, Xabi Alonso told the official Bayern website:
I grew up on the beaches of Spain. Therefore, I am particularly pleased to be able to wear a jersey made 100 percent from recycled ocean waste,” said Xabi Alonso while presenting the kit.
This is a great opportunity to draw attention to the importance of protecting the world’s oceans.
Excellent stuff. How cool is that?
