Thanks to the Africa Cup of Nations, it’s taken Swansea a good week to get around to unveiling Jordan Ayew after sealing his signature on deadline day.

Indeed, Swansea nabbed the 25-year-old Ghana international from Aston Villa in a swapsy deal that saw defender Neil Taylor (as well as £5million in cold, hard cash) go the other way.

However, in a sickening display of wanton disregard, the Swans have simply foisted Taylor’s freshly vacated squad number on their new forward…

Good grief! That’s a crime against nature. The No.3 shirt is for your first-choice left-back – anything else is simply unacceptable.

What’s next, we ask you? Central midfielders wearing the No.1 shirt?

While I agree that giving number 3 to anyone who isn’t a left back (or left winger in extreme circumstances. A defensively-minded one) is the very reason war and famine exist in this world, but if memory serves Ghanian strikers generally often play with that number (though it’s in the national team, where their impact on the ozone layer is smaller).

Samuel eto’o wore 5 at Everton, arouna kone wore 2 at Wigan and asamoa Gyan wore 3 so it’s nothing new really
