Sheffield Wednesday have finally announced that their new 2017/18 replica home shirt is to go on sale, just three months into the season.

After first revealing the 15oth anniversary strip on the first day of August, just 72 hours before the start of the Championship campaign, Wednesday faced repeated delays in the delivery of the replicas due to a series of production issues.

The club ditched erstwhile suppliers Sondico earlier this year and decided to produce their new shirts themselves in-house, only to make a hash of that and instead have to start chasing up potential manufacturers for quotes.

Still, Wednesday have got there eventually, confirming that their special blue-with-white-sleeves anniversary jersey will go on sale via the official club store from next Monday (23rd October).

Rather wonderfully, despite the three-month setback, Wednesday have still had the gall to price their new shirt at £59, thus making it the most expensive replica in Championship history.

In fact, according to Footy Headlines‘ tally, it’s the fifth most expensive replica shirt in English football, behind Chelsea, Tottenham, Man Utd and Man City, all of whom charge £60 full whack.

That said, the Owls have laid on an introductory offer for disgruntled fans, who’ll be able to purchase the shirt for as little as £49 if they place their order before 30th November – so all’s well that ends well.

For the record, Wednesday’s new away and third shirts still aren’t going on sale yet, though the club assure us all that they will be “shortly”.

It’s no wonder the fans are apoplectic…
