Speaking as folk who absolutely adored Colombia’s retro-tinged 2014 World Cup offering, Pies are happy to announce that their 2018 uniform is, arguably, even more handsome.

Would you just look at that? The alluring washed out yellow? The hints of classic trefoil on the flanks? That ace Federacion Colombiana de Futbol badge? It’s so beautiful it’s making our teeth ache.

Colombia’s new togs have been unveiled as part of ‘Adidas Day’ (to which it may or may not be officially referred) on which the brand cough up the majority of their wares for the upcoming World Cup.

Mexico’s 2018 strip is a bit of alright…

As is Belgium’s, inspired by their 1984 World Cup aesthetic…

The defending Weltmeisters are also going to look the part in Russia, with a prim kit inspired by their 1990 World Cup livery…

As will the erstwhile hosts…

Spain have gone big with echoes of ’94…

Argentina have adopted the clean, uncluttered lines of their 1993 Copa America kit, the last major honour the Albiceleste managed to win…

And a special mention must go to Japan’s exemplary kit, featuring a graphic apparently inspired by the stitching on traditional Samurai armour…

Now that’s a looker.

Colombia still pip it for our money. What say you, Pies fans? Which kit has got your eyelashes a-flutterin’?

hate to say it but the German shirt is a stunner far better than the bland boring shirts that we England supporters have to put up with

What these fashion guys do is just pick up a decade and recreate everything all over again. Apparently now they are in 1990.

Looks OK but I don’t like the Belgium shirt. Looks like a training thing.

Oooh, the Spain one is looking good. In the Germany one I’m missing the colour though. I like the overall nineties look!

  4. Jarren says:

I’m really concerned about the whole 20-year-cycle thing.

    You know, in the 80’s we had a 50’s revival, in the 90’s we had a 70’s revival, last decade it was all about the 80’s and now it’s “A E S T H E T I C” 90’s.

I mean, what happens in 10 years? How do we have a 20 year cycle of fashion when 20 years ago was already a throwback?

  5. Mr Sensible says:

They’re all massively inferior to the designs they reference.

If only the stripes on the Colombia and Germany kits spread onto the sleeves, just looks wrong being cut off. The Russia kit for whatever reason seems to be the only one that actually has a stripe follow into the sleeves and looks so much better because of it.

Also the number added to the front of the Germany kits makes the kit way too busy. I get they have to have it all but it simply lacks the bold simplicity of the 90 version, the monochrome also ruins it.

The problem is that the replica is never as good as the original and they all look like (half arsed to OK) efforts to copy classic strips. The Mexico one looks like a cheap rip off. It’s a fail for me.
