Bournemouth striker Jermain Defoe has got a permanent reminder of the friendship he formed with Bradley Lowery, the terminally ill Sunderland fan who quickly became his little buddy.

The relationship between Defoe and Lowery was and is genuinely touching, with the former befriending his six-year old pal after the latter served as a mascot for Sunderland while undergoing treatment for neuroblastoma, visiting him in hospital several times.

Sadly, Lowery passed away in July of last year, with Defoe subsequently attending his funeral at his local church in Hartlepool.

A year or so on, and the ex-England international has added to his collection of tattoos with a meaningful memento of his “best mate”…

How thoroughly lovely.

Now if you’ll excuse Pies, it would appear we’ve suddenly had a handful of dust blown into our eyes.
