Adidas first teased us about their new ‘intelligent’ boots when Lionel Messi took to the field against Nigeria in a pair a few weeks back, but the big day has finally rolled around with the official launch of the new adiZero F50 miCoach boots – an eye-catching (that’s putting politely) piece of footballing footwear design which incorporates a nifty little microchip in the sole, thus giving the 165 gram boot a ‘brain’…

The chip enables both professional and amateur footballers will be able to record, analyse and compare their personal speed, distance and work rate during any game via Adidas’ new miCoach.com online hub – meaning you can pit your hungover pub-league dawdlings against the efforts of Messrs Messi, Bale, Nasri et al should you wish to show yourself up miserably on a global scale for a mere £200.

What do we think Pies fans? Yay or nay?

    if ronald mcdonald played football…

  2. Jordon says:

    It’s the Ronald McDonald of football boots

  3. Lady B says:

    I like the idea,being able to compare yourself to the pros, but not in that colour combo!! These people who come up with the boot colour combos must be hallucinogenics…

  4. Jon says:

    Totally pointless

  5. Stopping the BS says:

    Sorry. Why are you showing us boots? “Lionel Messi took to the field against Nigeria in a pair a few weeks back” Oh… Now I understand.

    Get off your knees, Pies. Messi doesn’t love you.

  6. Ed says:

    Well, I like them.

    @Stopping the BS,
    I’m pretty sure this story is more about the first boots to have microchips rather than solely about Leo. But pray tell, what is your issue with articles involving the best player in the world today, and likely one of the greatest of all time? Would you rather just follow the latest news about “The effect David Wheater’s red card has on world football,” or “Sol Campbell’s retirement plans.”?

    @Stopping the BS,
    Don’t be a narrowminded horse-arse. This is interesting due to the fact that the boots have a “brain”. User dc above me has a point. And to be frank, I’ve been wanting to hear about these for a while now, and the fact that it records speed is intriguing. I’d love to measure my speed with the rest of the miCoach users.

    @Stopping the BS: i don’t like you. your comments always suck and are always bullshit. you took maybe the most irrelevant little tidbit from the article and made a big deal of it. no one wanted to talk about messi on this post, but now you’ve started it.

    and this is one of the many boot articles shown on pies. they’re fluff, good for variety, and usually a fairly banter-free zone for commenters. you’ve ruined that, so i reiterate, i don’t like you.

    I think stopping theBS has taken up the troll legacy left off by that sex god fella. two very sad boys!

  11. Olli says:

    There is another sensor which works with all shoes (Nike, Adidas, Umbro etc.).It will also be available in November and costs way less.. I personally think it is gonna be better than the miCoach thing since I am not going to bring an iphone or ipod along on the pitch. I think the company that invented id already did a great job with the tracking of the German Bundesliga!

  12. Chris says:

    If you pay 200 sheets for a pair of boots with a chip in then good luck to you.
    But you will still be a fat wanker getting the shit kicked out of you wearing decorations for boots.

    Go and buy a quality pair of Adidas World Cups and polish them once a week. Like a proper amateur player.

    Flashy boots are for flashy players who can do the business. End of

  13. Redskywalker says:

    Different colour pls.. otherwise I like the idea of being able to record your ‘stats’ after a game and compare.

    Hope this technology sticks around

  17. Sol Campbell says:

    @DC
    Of course my retirement plans are more interesting than this guy Leonel ;-)

    But seriously, I was waiting for that since the Nike+ running shoes come out. Now finally I get my football performance data. Although I prefer the version from be-meister, where you can check your data live on your watch and I still can wear my Pumas.
