In their continued attempts to bolster the prestige of English football’s lamented secondary cup competition, the EFL have revealed that the draw for the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup will be nothing shy of revolutionary.

Be warned, you might want to sit down for this: For the very first time in the long and vaunted history of association football, the draw for the last eight of the Carabao Cup will be streamed live on Twitter…

Gleefully announcing the exciting and vital news, beloved EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey said:

The Football League prides itself on being innovative and not being afraid to try something new if we believe it has the potential to increase exposure and awareness of our competitions at home and abroad.

It’s the first time a major cup draw in the UK has been broadcast exclusively live by the social media network and presents us with a rare opportunity to engage with a global fan base alongside being able to continue the debate immediately after the ties are determined.

And, as if that wasn’t enough revolution for one morning, the draw will be hosted by Sam Matterface and conducted by, and we quote, “British sporting royalty” in the shape of Phil Tufnel and Matt Dawson.

Yep.  The EFL are hoping to increase the prestige of what they continually refer to as a “major” football tournament being having it conducted by the current Question of Sport team captains – one a former England cricketer and the other a former England rugby player.

Fitting that this should all be announced on World Tripe Day, no?

Remember when Question of Sport was actually a decent show? Now they just try to see how many times they can say “great shout” whilst Sue Barker sits there giggling like a schoolgirl.
