Tony Chapron, the referee who kicked out at a player during a recent Ligue 1 match, has been suspended from active duty by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) for six months.

Chapron tangled with Nantes defender Diego Carlos while both sprinting after PSG’s Kylian Mbappe. The pair then fell over each other, with the downed official lashing out in frustration before sending the Brazilian off.

The LFP initially “withdrew Chapron until further notice” while they carried out an investigation, the upshot being that the 45-year-old has now been handed a three-month ban with a further three months on probation.

After hearing Mr. Tony Chapron and reading the instructor’s report, the Commission decided to sanction him for six months of suspension, three of which were suspended.

Chapron has previously announced that he intends to retire at the end of the current season.

Whether he makes a grand return to the pitch before then remains to be seen.
