In a break from the usual horror hair cavalcade of precision-cut mullets and nebulous sprawling perms, we thought we’d deviate slightly with this week’s Friday Football Sticker Flashback to have a misty-eyed, nostalgic look back at the beautifully retro “foil” national emblems that graced Panini’s Espana ’82 World Cup sticker album – all complete with that cheeky little Naranjito scamp (the coolest World Cup mascot, hands down, no contest your honour!) in the corner…

If we had to pick a favourite, it’d have to be the three lions. England’s crest hasn’t looked better since, though Spain’s old crest was a beauty too.

You?

  1. One Man Went to Mow says:

    No Naranjito for Bulgaria?

  2. the69ersfc says:

Didn’t get Brazil then? It was always a hard one to get hold of.

  3. Chris says:

@69ers: Shite, just realised I added Bulgaria’s Mexico ’86 sticker instead of Brazil’s ’82 by mistake!

What a bloody numpty. Changed now.

  4. Fat Nakago says:

I like the Scotland sticker. Nice clean design.

I note that there is no sticker for Brazil. Any reason for that??

  5. Davy says:

Ahhh Spain 82 I have very fond memories of this world cup. It is the first one I really remember. I vaguely remember Argentina 78 but 82…..

  6. Chris says:

The northern ireland and french badges are the stand out for me. Spain goes alright too.

  7. Degs says:

How am I supposed to mock their hairstyles?

  8. Straight Dave says:

The first thing that stood out for me is the fact that France isn’t spelled as it is in the French language (Spain is Espana, Poland is Polska and Germany is Deutschland, to name a few examples). I wonder why this is?

  9. Herman says:

Quite poorly made with the mascot either pushing the logo too far to the left or removing parts of the logo.

  10. Sjakie Meulemans says:

@Straight Dave: How exactly do you think one spelles ‘France’ in French, then? Look it up, you might be in for a surprise.

  11. Andy Carroll's Ponytail says:

^HahahaHahahahHAhahah!!! I burst out laughing reading the above comment. All in the middle of a working Monday in the office.

Btw, anybody can explain what’s the significance of the 3 Lions and all those flowers (poppies?) on the England crest?
