Liverpool 2-2 Arsenal – Premier League – 21st December 2014
A 97th minute Martin Skrtel header secured Liverpool a share of the points in what was a highly entertaining clash at Anfield.
The Reds were by far the better side in the first-half, with Wojciech Szczesny Arsenal’s saviour on more than one occasion. Liverpool eventually went ahead through Philippe Coutinho just before the break, however, there was still time in the first period for Mathieu Debuchy to head in a rather undeserved equaliser for the Gunners. After the break, the visitors improved and went ahead after Olivier Giroud combined superbly with Santi Cazorla before firing past Brad Jones. The sending-off of sub Fabio Borini for two bookable offences looked to have handed the Gunners all three points. However, with the game almost over, Skrtel, with head bandaged in true hero fashion, rose above a feeble Arsenal backline to head home from an Adam Lallana corner.
Liverpool go 10th, a point ahead of rivals Everton while the Gunners, after once again throwing away valuable points due to their trademark brittle defending, are sixth, ahead of their rivals Spurs on goal difference.
