On 29 April 1901, Liverpool won their first league title. By the end of the 1989-1990 season, the Reds had won 17 titles.

However, arguably their greatest nights were those that saw them win the European Cup in 1976–77, 1977–78, 1980–81 and 1983–84.

Liverpool’s glorious history is darkened by two horrors: the 1985 Heysel Stadium disaster, in which 39 Juventus supporters were killed at the Euopean Cup Final; and the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough Stadium, Sheffield, on 15 April 1989. That terrible day 96 Liverpool fans died.

But it’s not all about the glory or the horror. It’s about the sounds, the people, the city, the unity, the greatest game and the hope it keeps percolating…

No pies, you know your not allowed to mention Heysel where 39 fans lost their lives and we were all booted out of European competition for several years this was swept under the rug long ago and we just pretend it didn’t happen….but seeing you did mention it I was just wondering how Liverpool are going to commemorate the approaching 30 year anniversary of this terrible day.
