In the aftermatch of Jurgen Klopp’s return to Dortmund with Liverpool last night, the German press have been trawling the archives to keep the ball rolling for as long as possible.

After a bit of digging, Sport BILD managed to pull a couple of film stills out from the archives that show current BVB star Marcos Reus, along with former teammate Kevin Grosskreutz (now at Stuttgart), serving as fresh-faced young mascots for Liverpool at the 2001 UEFA Cup Final, which was staged in Dortmund.

Liverpool went on to beat Alaves 5-4 after extra-time in the Westfalenstadion, but little did they know that they had two future German internationals leading them out beforehand…

Having been tipped off about the photo, Grosskreutz tagged Reus on Twitter and proclaimed that “we have hardly changed”…

How time flies, eh?

As for the young Grosskreutz, Pies used to have that exact same haircut. So very elegant.

Always good to see Alavés at Pies. Funny that 12-year-old Kevin Grosskreutz was already taller than Karmona.
