Liverpool gave Mersey neighbours Everton a right royal hammering on Wednesday night, with the Reds running out deserved 4-0 victors at Anfield. However, an injury to striker Divock Origi, after a dreadful challenge by Everton’s Ramiro Funes Mori, took some of the gloss of the emphatic derby win for Jurgen Klopp and co.
The hosts were 2-0 up at the break, courtesy of a couple of James Milner assisted headers from Origi and Mamadou Sakho. Then, on 50 minutes, Funes Mori went in studs up on the Belgian striker’s ankle, leaving the youngster in agony…
Red card for #EFC‘s Funes Mori, and rightly so. Bad tackle compounded by an extra stamp on Origi’s ankle. RIP game. pic.twitter.com/wsT7f2E0Ve

The Everton man rightly saw a straight red while Origi was stretchered off with what looked like a serious injury. Post-match reports suggest that while the in-form forward avoided an ankle break, he has still damaged ligaments which may well rule him out of the rest of the season and threaten his involvement in EURO 2016 with Belgium.
Liverpool would score two more goals before the end, courtesy of goals from sub Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho to round off a fine evening for the Reds and a nightmare night for under-pressure Toffees’ boss Roberto Martinez.
While Klopp continues to move forward at Anfield, one wonders how much longer the Everton board will stick with Martinez, who has seen his side stall badly this season.
