With Christian Benteke and Mario Balotelli both on their way out and Daniels Sturridge and Ings both gluttons for niggling injuries, Liverpool are in the process of trying out a few alternative options up top during their pre-season campaign.

Having already given Under-18s goalkeeper Shamal George a go up-front against Huddersfield, manager Jurgen Klopp turned to an altogether more experienced man to lead the line in a friendly against Stanford University’s staff team: a certain wiry veteran German striker by the name of Jurgen Klopp.

Indeed, Klopp played the full 90 minutes against Stanford, rotating through three different positions without, sadly, coming close to finding the back of the net…
