Currently re-born with Nice in Ligue 1, Mario Balotelli has missed out on a place in Italy’s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers, despite being tipped by many for a recall.

However, the ex-Liverpool man is still satiisfied with his renaissance on the Côte d’Azur, naming Nice as one of just two clubs were he has felt happy. Unsurprisingly, the Reds aren’t one of them.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Balotelli said:

The city where I am now is beautiful.  The environmental aspect played a role in my decision, having recently lived in Liverpool and Milan.

The team, however, are very young. We’re almost all the same age, this is the football that I like.

I have no more dreams in football, only targets. The ranking of the teams where I have felt good? Nice, Manchester City and… that’s it.

Balotelli won the Premier League with Man City in 2011/12, with his one and only assist in the competition coming for that famous last-minute Sergio Aguero goal against QPR. However, he has seen his career spiral since then, until his move to Nice.

A player with superb ability, it’s good to see him finally back on form after a nightmare spell at Anfield and a patchy time on loan with Milan. And if he continues banging in the goals in Ligue 1, a place in a future Azzurri squad does look very likely.
