Liverpool’s nightmare January schedule ended with yet another surprise defeat on Saturday, with the Reds losing 2-1 at home to Championship side Wolves in the FA Cup fourth round.

The visitors got off to the perfect start, with an unmarked Richard Stearman heading home after just 53 seconds.

Hedler Costa, who had set up Wolves’ opener with a free-kick, then found Andreas Weimann on 41 minutes, with the former Villa man rounding Reds’ ‘keeper Lorius Karius and firing home.

After the break, a shell-shocked Liverpool side struggled to get themselves back into the game. However, late on, Belgian striker Divock Origi got one back for the hosts.

Origi’s goal set up a dramatic finale, however, an under-par Liverpool couldn’t find that precious equalier, leaving Wolves to secure a famous and thoroughly deserved victory.

The defeat for Liverpool comes just four days after they were dumped out of the EFL Cup by Southampton at the semi-final stage.

Indeed, after a superb start to the season, the Merseysiders have managed just one win out of eight games, with their season in serious danger of ending in a damp squib.

As for Wolves, they can look forward to the fifth round draw, with manager Paul Lambert no doubt hoping their Anfield victory can kickstart their disappointing league campaign.
