Liverpool will line out in a Champions League semi-final for the first time in 10 years after the Reds beat Manchester 2-1 at the Etihad to round off an impressive 5-1 aggregate victory.

The odds were stacked against the Citizens coming into the tie, but they got off to a dream start, with Gabriel Jesus scoring on two minutes.

However, a second goal wouldn’t come for the hosts, with Bernardo Silva hitting the frame of the goal.

City were then desperately unfortunate to see a Leroy Sané effort in the first-half wrongly ruled out for offside, with Liverpool’s James Milner getting the last touch before the German fired home.

Spanish ref Antonio Mateu sent a livid Pep Guardiola to the stands for the second 45 after a half-time rant.

After the break, the visitors improved and scored on 56 minutes, with Mo Salah coolly dinking the ball over Nicolas Otamendi into the back of the net to all but kill off the tie.

On 77 minutes, a mistake from Otamendi allowed Roberto Firmino to make it 3-1 as the visitors sealed their place in the last four.

Despite a strong showing from the Citizens, particularly in the first half, they once again fell short against Jurgen Klopp’s improving Reds.

The win sees the Liverpool become the first side to beat a Guardiola team three times in a single season, while a whopping 14% of City’s games in 2018 have been defeats by the Reds!

While City can now focus on finally completing their Premier League title win, Liverpool can look forward to a Champions League semi-final, with another Euro-glory still very much on the cards for the free-scoring Merseysiders.

Liverpool supporters completely embarrassed themselves today. What with all the little lapsed Catholics and petulent Protestants joining in choruses of “Fuck Jesus” and all. Shameful.

    • Moxey says:

Same can be said for the Man City fans lobbing flares onto the pitch right near the celebrating Liverpool players after Salah’s goal. Much like the idiots who knackered City’s bus last week.
      Every team has these “fans”.
