In entirely unshocking news, Mohamed Salah has been named Footballer of the Year for 2018 by the Football Writers’ Association.
The Liverpool forward, who is top goalscorer in the Premier League, pipped Kevin De Bruyne to the award by fewer than 20 votes, with the pair receiving over 90% of the total votes between them. Harry Kane came a distant third.
A total of 10 players received votes for Footballer of the Year. After @MoSalah and @DeBruyneKev came @HKane in 3rd. The rest in alphabetical order, were Sergio Aguero, Christian Eriksen, Roberto Firmino, Nick Pope, David Silva, Raheem Sterling and Jan Vertonghen.

Indeed, according to FWA chairman Patrick Barclay, the vote was the closest the organisation have witnessed since the 1968/69 season, when there was a dead heat between Tony Book (Man City) and Dave Mackay (Derby).
Salah has now been named both PFA Player’s Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year, thus repeating the feat managed by N’Golo Kante last season.
