A month-and-a-half on from the Champions League finals and Loris Karius is obviously still suffering the after-effects of that bothersome concussion he picked up in Kiev.
Several days ago, Karius dropped an embarrassing ricket before a pre-season friendly against Chester FC.
Skip forward to Tuesday afternoon and the German goalkeeper was at it again, this time binning a fairly straightforward catch in Liverpool’s friendly against Tranmere Rovers – an error which led directly to the League Two team’s first goal of the game…
Liverpool held on to win 3-2 at Prenton Park, but still…
Jurgen Klopp sprang to Karius’ defence immediately after the game… by pointing out that several of his players were just as incompetent as the beleaguered ‘keeper:
Nobody likes that goal but if we talk about the second goal I think it was Millie’s (James Milner’s) fault together with (Pedro) Chirivella.
Two brilliant footballers make this mistake, which one was the bigger? I would say the second one but we don’t talk about that.
Christ. Here’s hoping Karius is getting all this out of his system before the new season starts in earnest.
