Liverpool went four points clear at the top of the Premier League table after a pre-Christmas victory over Wolves at rain-soaked Molineux.

The Reds went into the Friday night game a point ahead of Manchester City, and the Merseysiders were worthy winners against Nuno Espirito Santo’s high-flying Wolves side.

However, the hosts produced a decent performance themselves, particularly in the first-half.

It took only 18 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, with Mohamed Salah once again on target, this time courtesy of a deft flick after good work from Fabinho.

On 68 minutes, Liverpool doubled their advantage with Salah key yet again.

This time the winger produced a superb chipped pass which was beautifully volleyed into the back of the net by Virgil van Dijk, scoring his first Premier League goal for the Reds.

The game would end 2-0 to Jurgen Klopp’s side, who are now guaranteed top-spot in the table for Christmas, with eight of the past nine teams to have been top on December 25 going on to win the title.

Wolves, on the other hand, stay in the comparatively lofty position of seventh.
