Manchester City 3-1 Sunderland – Capital One Cup Final – 2nd March 2014

Soccer - Capital One Cup - Final - Manchester City v Sunderland - Wembley Stadium

Despite producing a superb performance against their more illustrious rivals, Sunderland would ultimately come away with losers’ medals from a superb League Cup final at Wembley. Fabio Borini had given the Black Cats an early lead and for most of the first-half it was the Black Cats who were the better side, with the Citizens looking a shadow of their former selves.

After the break, City finally started to impose themselves, with Yaya Toure netting a superb long-range curling lobbed effort which beat Vito Mannone. Soon after, Samir Nasri doubled his side’s advantage with a superb first-time effort. Sunderland didn’t fold however, and kept pushing for an equaliser, but in the end it was City who score again, courtesy of Jesus Navas, and lift the trophy. The quadruple is still on!
