On Tuesday night, Wycombe Wanderers’ striker Matt McClure was sent off just 70 seconds after coming on as a second-half sub. McClure saw red on 68 minutes for leading with his arm while challenging for a header with Tranmere’s Adam Dugdale (the Chairboys still won the game 2-1). Here’s how the events were logged by the BBC website last night…

However, if you’re looking for a quick-fire card, then look no further than hard-man loon Vinny Jones’ five second booking for Sheffield United against Man City. Admittedly, it’s not a red like McClure, but FIVE seconds! The foul was on none other than former England midfield terrier Peter Reid and was, unsurprisingly, followed by a second yellow in the second half for Jones.

It’s apparently the fastest recorded card in top-flight English football history and a rather apt record for a prize goon like Jones.
