Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri is too fat to play, according to new boss Pep Guardiola.

29-year-old Nasri is yet to feature for the Citizens in their pre-season schedule, and was an un-used sub for their International Champions Cup victory against Borussia Dortmund on Thursday.

Earlier in the week, Gael Clichy revealed that Guardiola had banned pizza from the club menu as well as stopping overweight players from training with the first team.

Now, it appears that former Arsenal playmaker Nasri is one of the City players who returned after the summer break a bit chunkier than required.

Speaking about Nasri, who missed six months of last season with a thigh injury, Guardiola said:

He arrived a little bit overweight.

Last season, he was injured in the season. We want to avoid that. We want the players on the pitch to be fit.

We want their weight to be in the right place where they can run 90 minutes like Fernandinho and (Aleksandar) Kolarov and the others. Hopefully in the next two weeks, he will be OK.

However, Pep did admit was Nasri’s fitness was “much better now”, and applauded the efforts made by his players in training, saying:

I cannot have any complaints about the team. It’s the opposite.

The fans can be so proud of these players. In every training session, they’ve tried and tried with the rhythm we play.

One wonders what Pep and his svelte contemporaries would have made of the likes of Jan Molby and Micky Quinn.

    What is it with dying your hair blonde every 20 years?

    @Jarren

    Have you seen pictures of a 9-year old Nasri with a blonde barnet?

    • Jarren says:

      No Dave, but you remember back in ’96. Gazza and all that.

      Then back in ’76, all those punks.

      And back in ’56, all those women with blonde hair.

      Well, you get the idea.
