Pep Guardiola has failed to reach the last eight of the Champions League for the first time as a manager after his Manchester City side lost 3-1 to Monaco on Wednesday night, with the away goals rule dumping the Premier League side out of the competition via a 6-6 aggregate scoreline.

Two goals up from the 5-3 first-leg result, the Citizens were confident of booking their place in the last eight at the Stade Louis II.

However, Monaco were at their effervescent best from the off with starlet Kylian Mbappe netting from close-range on eight minutes.

City’s slow start was punished again just before the half-hour mark, with Fabinho firing home from a Benjamin Mendy centre.

The Citizens were impotent in the first period, failing to muster a single attempt on goal as their hosts looked to build on their lead.

The visitors managed to rouse themselves in the second-half, with Leroy Sane scoring on 71 minutes from close-range to make it 6-5 to the Citizens on aggregate.

City looked to be heading for the last eight until poor defending allowed  Tiemoue Bakayoko to head home from a free-kick.

That goal levelled the tie at 6-6, with Leonardo Jardim’s side holding on to register a victory on away goals and move into the quarter-finals.

As for Guardiola, he will be all too aware of the limitations of his City side who become the first team in Champions League history to score six goals overall in a knockout tie and still be eliminated.

Leicester are now England’s only hope of Champions League glory this season!

This guy is SO overrated. ‘So’ is a word he loves, so let’s use it.
I think he is responsible for some of the worst signings in history. He has inherited perfect squads at Barça and Bayern and people think he’s a genius. Get out of here. Let’s see some of his fantastic signings over the years to reinforce the perfect squads he has inherited.

    Keirrison (Who?) / 14m
    Cáceres / 16,5m
    Nolito / 18m
Bravo / 18m (I won’t even comment on this one)
    Chygrynskiy (Who?) / 25m
    Gotze / 37m (4m would be a reasonable deal)
    Stones / 55m

55m for John Stones… I think 2m + a pack of Marlboros would be too much. Let’s not forget the 70m for Ibra, just to play him out wide.

PS: I don’t think he’s horrible like Benitez, but I definitely think there are a lot of better managers out there. You just have to remenber that every manager is successful at Barça and Bayern. Every manager.
