League leaders Man City saw off Southampton on Wednesday night to extend their flawless Premier League winning streak to 12 games, though it took another decisive goal from Raheem Sterling to get it over the line.

The in-form City forward curled home his 13th goal of the season in the 96th minute to secure the victory with the final kick of the match, sparking delirious celebrations at the Etihad.

Indeed, the home dugout emptied as Sterling’s effort rippled the Saints’ net, with the City subs tearing down the touchline to celebrate with their teammates – including Benjamin Mendy, who is supposed to be nursing a ruptured knee ligament…

For the record, Mendy isn’t scheduled to return to action until the New Year after tweaking his knee against Crystal Palace just five matches into the season.

The City medical team will be pleased.

For me Mendy is maybe the most likable PL player in recent memory. Hope he gets back playing soon
