Shakhtar Donetsk registered an impressive win over Man City in their final Group F fixture to slip into the knockout phase as runners-up to Pep Guardiola’s side.
The Ukrainians beat a depleted City side 2-1 in Kharkiv to secure themselves a spot in the next round, leaving head coach Paulo Fonseca with a wager to uphold.
Sure enough, the Portuguese appeared for his post-match press conference decked out as Zorro…
Fonseca promised to dress up as the famed vigilante should Shakhtar squeak through and, sure enough, out came the cape and mask.
Speaking through his interpreter (who also donned a mask for the occasion), the 44-year-old said:
This is the most joyful press conference of my career. I feel great joy.
I think not only Shakhtar’s supporters but all Ukrainians have to be proud of our team.
Here’s the magical moment that Don Paulo de la Vega entered from stage left, much to the amusement of the entire media room…
This is the moment Shakhtar Donetsk coach Paulo Fonseca fulfilled a promise to hold a press conference wearing a Zorro mask if his team reached the Champions League last 16. Just think, this man could have been Everton manager #MCFC #EFC pic.twitter.com/z85pGcNGrl

A man of his word, just like Zorro.
