Having watched his teammates do it over 130 times already this season, Man City goalkeeper Ederson has declared his intent to score a goal before the 2017/18 campaign is out.

City were already 3-0 up against Swansea at the Etihad on Sunday when they managed to win a penalty, with the crowd duly chanting in unison for the Brazilian ‘keeper to step up and rattle it away.

Alas, Gabriel Jesus seized the opportunity only to see his spot-kick saved by Lukasz Fabianski and the rebound put in by Bernardo Silva.

Not to be perturbed, Ederson is still holding out hope that he’ll be able to get his name on the score-sheet over the course of City’s four remaining fixtures.

Speaking to ESPN, the 24-year-old said:

I heard them chanting my name, asking me to take the penalty, but Gabriel went there.

Unfortunately he missed it and Bernardo, fortunately, scored – but if the manager had asked me to go there, I would have definitely scored.

I’m not sure if I would be able to do set-pieces, but I’m good at penalties, either using power or technique when I’m shooting.

City have their regular penalty takers and we have good options, but if Pep asks me to take it, I’m there.

Hopefully it can happen, I’d like to score.

Lest we forget that this is the same man who sincerely offered to play in midfield to help Pep Guardiola out of an injury jam back in February.

Guess it’s true what they say about Brazilian goalkeepers: they really are all just frustrated strikers!

In other words…”Sycophantic ref will bow to pressure from sycophantic media and award City a dubious penalty in one of their four remaining games”…
