David Silva was the last-gasp match-winner for Manchester City on Tuesday night, with the Spaniard’s late strike securing a 2-1 comeback win for the Premier League side away to Hoffenheim.

The Citizens suffered a shock defeat in their opening group game at home to Lyon, and were eager to kickstart their Champions League campaign against the Bundesliga’s surprise package.

However, it took only 43 seconds for Pep Guardiola’s side to go behind, with Ishak Belfodil firing through the legs of Ederson after the City backline was split open far too easily.

City got themselves level soon after, with Sergio Aguero scoring after a cut-back from Leroy Sané with just seven minutes on the clock.

The visitors pushed for a winner, with Aguero and Raheem Sterling both thwarted by Oliver Baumann in the Hoffenheim goal.

We were also treated to a little bit of over-zealous sweeper-keeping nonsense from Ederson that could have easily resulted in a Hoffenheim goal…

It looked as though City would come away with only a point for their troubles until, in the 87th minute, Silva pounced on an error from Stefan Posch before firing home the precious winner.

The game would end in a 2-1 win for City, a result which sees them go second in Group F behind Lyon.
