Manchester City defender Ben Thatcher has been given an eight-match ban by the FA for his horrendous forearm smash on Pedro Mendes. The ban has been back-dated to include the two games Thatcher has already missed through the internal suspension handed out by City.
Is that really a long enough ban? Paolo di Canio picked up an 11-match ban for his little push on Paul Alcock – which I happened to post about yesterday – and that didn’t put any lives at risk. A 15 game ban would have been more appropriate for such a reckless, high-profile incident if the FA want to stop it happening again.
