Man Utd Confirm £12m Shinji Kagawa Deal, Give Him Weighty No. 7 Shirt

By Chris Wright

The deal is done. The day after Chelsea made their first high-profile move of the summer is hoovering up Eden Hazard for £32 million, Manchester United have responded by tying up the £12 million (rising to £17 million) signing of Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund – making the 23-year old midfield string-puller their first ever Japanese player.

Here’s the official club statement:

“Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has agreed terms with both Borussia Dortmund and Shinji Kagawa for his transfer to the Club.

“The deal is subject only to the player medical and obtaining a UK work permit. These conditions are anticipated to be completed by the end of June. Further details will be announced in due course.”

…and here’s the obligatory Rio Ferdinand Tweet: “Welcome to Shinji Kagawa for his transfer to Man Utd. Here’s to a succesful time here bro!”

£12 million for the inaugural Bundesliga player of the year? Bit of a bargain, no? Word is he’s also going to be handed the No. 7 shirt at Old Trafford. You don’t need us to tell you why that’s significant *ahem* Best *ahem* Beckham *ahem* Robson *ahem* Cantona *ahem* Ronaldo *ahem*

Apropos of nothing, Kagawa also enjoys hunting hares in his spare time. Fact.

Not properly acquainted? Here’s his best bits from his Dortmund days…

Yep. We’re excited about this one.

  2. Mrn says:

Just the type of midfielder united have needed for the past 3 years! Looks to be a bargain as well compared to hazard.

  3. eddie wilkinson says:

i think you’ll find that george best wore the number 11 shirt more than any other

  4. Miracle says:

Yes pls give him the number 7 shirt because u can’t just get a lengend anywhere, u have to build one. So we gonna build kagawa.. Ronalda was never a legend was started wearing the number 7 shirt. So give kagawa a chance to become a legend as a superstar player now

  5. Eckpfosten says:

One should mention, that Kagawa was bought off his japanese club by Dortmund for about 350.000 Euro. BVB made a big deal of money with this guy.

    *ahem* Owen *ahem*

  7. Gargantuan Garth says:

Looks the perfect singing imo, blink twice and you’ll miss those crazy feet. Having said that these videos are made to showcase players and even blundering hobo Bebe looked like the ideal acquisition in his. If he is a flop shirt sales in Japan alone will probably cover the money exchanged in the deal so win win!

  8. McRillen says:

I think Best usually wore the number 11 shirt. But in thoes days you did not have squad numbers. Every position had a number. This ment Best played with 7,8,10 & 11. I know for a fact he blayed with number 11 at his testimonial at Windsor Park.

  9. Toz says:

Why the fuck couldn’t we sign him?

  10. Young Aliko says:

good for manunited they need centreback for replacement incase vidic is not there

  11. Mr Sensible says:

Perfect signing, now lets sort out a CM and LB and we’ll be sorted.

    Nani–Kagawa–Young
    ——-Rooney——-

That front 4 looks great, very fluid and all capable of switching positions, Rooney can play as a false number 9 dropping deep and allowing Kagawa to make late runs into the box. Or Kagawa can create delicate through balls for Rooney or out wide to Nani and Young, cant wait!

  12. Bruno says:

Mr Sensible… United fan here – Nani sucks mate

  13. Bumder says:

Team for man u with kagawa

    De Gea

  15. Anonymous says:

i like how all the “reports” say he will cost an excess of 30 million. utter bull shit

  16. Pete says:

    442

    De Gea

JOnes Evans Vidic Evra(they will buy a LB though Im sure)

    Valencia Kagawa Carrick Young

    Rooney Welbeck

    Bench:
    Ferdinand
    Nani
    Scholes
    Anderson
    Chicharito

  17. Sam25 says:

4-4-2 is a pointless formation nowadays. Would be best if United could get used to playing 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 instead. I’d play Kagawa in the hole behind Rooney with Valencia, Nani or Young on the wings. Welbeck could be an option on the wings aswell.

I think Chicharito can benefit from Kagawa. He needs a playmaker with great vision to get the best out of him. Could be interesting to try and find a way to fit Chicharito, Rooney and Kagawa in the same team.

I hope United sign a defensive midfielder like M’Vila or Strootman, then mold Cleverley into a not quite as good Xavi and have them two sitting behind the front 4.
