Agent Claims Clutch Of Premier League Clubs Chasing Michael Owen, But Can The Striker Still Cut It At The Top?

The Beeb is reporting that, according to Michael Owen’s agent, there are a number of Premier League clubs chasing the signature of his injury-plagued, horse-owning client.

Now the hooftastic Stoke City have already been linked to the out-of-contract Owen this summer, but the identity of the other  clubs reportedly sniffing around the player remain unknown. Still, I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the newly promoted sides, moneyed-up with their Premier League pay-day, decided to take a punt on an old experienced head.

However, despite keeping fit courtesy of an apparently streamlined, personalised training regime, is Owen’s pint-sized body really still capable of performing over the course of a whole domestic season, with all its kicks, knocks, bruises and Lee Cattermoles? Owen only managed to make one Premier League appearance for Man Utd last season (against Stoke of all people), so any team ready to stump up big wages for the 32-year-old will be taking a pretty big risk.

Hes 32! Seems to have been around forever.

  2. NathanM says:

Probably go off to Sunderland with the other United bench-warmers.

  3. Archbishop Betty Snagcock says:

owen’s very good career is going to be remembered for how arrogant his agent is (this, THAT brochure) if he’s not careful

Owen is that girl that’s a 6 out of 10, but because she acts like a 10 nobody rates her, even though shes actually not that bad.

basically owen wouldn’t be a bad 15k a week freebie for a mid-table/newly promoted club but because he acts like he could still hack it in the champions league, no one is taking him

  4. Fnarf says:

The archbishop nails it. No top club will even give him a look. Not even Stoke wants any of that; Owen 2012 makes Peter Crouch look like Pele, Drogba and Messi all rolled into one.

  5. Alex Ferguson says:

This smells of desperation to me. Stoke were after him earlier in the summer but he held out for better. Now he needs Stoke to come in for him again. Why bother? The guy is never fit.

  6. Pkhakheria says:

Owen 2012 can be a good documentary …

  7. ChristianVieri says:

Owen was washed up at Newcastle, his time is long gone. The MLS or some other recreational league like the Arabic teams would be a good fit

  8. ...... says:

ONCE A MANC NEVER A RED.. The man is rubbish, just go to the MLS

  9. Nicko says:

Wouldn’t be a bad benchwarmer back at Liverpool… just saying. Brendan Rogers’ style of football may suit him too.

  10. Dave says:

I don’t get why he has become so rubbish, he’s only 32! I reckon when he was sent packing after a year at Madrid his ego couldn’t take it, cos he’s been shit since then really

  11. Alex says:

isn’t this Michael “I’d rather sit on the bench for a good team than play for a bad team” Owen? Who would his ego allow him to play for?

We don’t need him back in the PL he’s a bad example to young people and a washed up hack.
