Not since we can remember have Manchester United fans been so excited about a prospective transfer, but the arrival of Thiago Alcantara at Old Trafford just got approximately 100% less “imminent” with Pep Guardiola’s public admission this morning that the 22-year-old Barcelona midfielder is the only player he wants to bring to Bayern Munich this summer.

Pep Guardiola told a press conference, quite literally moments ago:

“I want Thiago Alcantara and I have asked [Bayern to make an approach]. I don’t know what will happen. I know Thiago very well. I talked to Rummenigge and Sammer about him, we will wait and then see.

“I don’t think (adding another midfielder) will be a problem. I spoke to club about my concept and told them why I want Thiago Alcantara.

“Thiago is the only player I want, that’s what I told them. It’ll be him or no one. We have many players but we the need the special (quality) that Thiago Alcantara brings.

“Nobody will leave Barcelona unless they feel they won’t play much. He wants to play. That’s why I proposed him to the club.

“[Bayern] will decide. I told them my opinion.”

Eeep. Suddenly the prospect of seeing Thiago flitting around on the Premier League stage seems an awfully long way off.

Let’s face it, if there’s even a hint of an approach from Pep and Bayern, Thiago’s going to follow his former Barca spirit guide to the Allianz, ain’t he?

I just don’t see where he would fit in though?

There are rumours Pep will drop Martinez into defence which although he is good there leaves a big hole in defensive midfield with only really Gustavo capable of filling. That then leaves 4 positions which are currently filled by Schweinsteiger, Muller, Kroos, Goetze, Ribery and Robben, all more established than Thiago. If anything he will have even less chance of games at Bayern than he currently does at Barca.

If he does go to Bayern then I will be really fucking pissed!!! Bayern will have 7 top quality central midfielders and United will still be left with 2 (Carrick and Kagawa). What the fuck are United playing at, do we not realise the importance of having some central midfielders.

    Fuck off Bayern!

Well, that was fun while it lasted. Thanks for spoiling it for everybody Pep

    Haha, a w s o m e !!!

That Armenian guy with the weird name snobbed L’pool, now Thiago (who was already seen as kind of a fixed thing for ManU)…
Shows that the EPL is losing a little ground, in my opinion.

Nevertheless… maybe the Sheikhs, Russian BlingBling Dudes and American Money-Squeezers read that sign and think about their English Youngsters in order to produce their own Thiagos, Götzes, Müllers, etc. Could be worth it.
And could sell out more than spending an inflational million of their shitty money on an even more inflational rate of average players.

But hey, they must know what they’re doing… don’t they?!

Would (and will) love to see Thiago play in Germany. Seriously!

Mr. Sensible…that wasn’t a very sensible post. Ribery and Robben are not central midfielders for 1. Secondly it’s widely rumored that the latter is on his way out anyway. Third Schweini can slot in at defensive midfield pretty easily. Lastly, United still have Tom Cleverly (HA!) so they should be pretty sorted out in the midfield.

I do find it curious for Bayern to go after Thiago after signing Goetze though. Seems like they fit in the same spot but Pep knows a hell of a lot more about footy than I do plus it’s not like Bayern doesn’t have the extra cash lying around.

  6. Herman says:

Please say no Mr Sammer. He is not needed by Bayern. He is not good enough and there is enough midfielders already.

Manchester United is going to be a mediocre club . Moyes is a stupid manager .
