It seemed to take forever, but Manchester United finally got a bit of business done in the transfer window by signing Marouane Fellaini from Everton at 10:59pm yesterday evening (God knows what’s going on with the Fabio Coentrao deal), but one player David Moyes did miss out on was Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera.

United spent all day attempting to activate the midfielder’s release clause and it looked like a deal was close at one point when club representatives turned up at La Liga HQ with a handful of papers.

Unfortunately it turned out that these men were “imposters” and not affiliated with Manchester United in any way. Here’s Guillem Balague to explain…

That’s certainly a new one on us. Isn’t deadline day such fun? Thankfully, the “imposters” were caught on CCTV as they made their way out of the La Liga building and police are requesting that anyone who can identify the mystery ringleader to come forward…
