Newly-appointed Manchester United exec Ed Woodward has taken an awful lot of flack recently over the club’s relatively scant summer transfer business, with many irked fans contacting the club and demanding an explanation.

Thanks to protocols set out in the club charter, United’s communications department are duty-bound to reply to any fan correspondence, including emails sent to the online enquiries box. Therefore, Woodward – or someone acting on his response – has since responded to the myriad criticism by mailing out an explanatory letter to all those aggrieved supporters who weren’t content with Maroune Fellaini being the sole arrival at Old Trafford during the transfer window.

As posted on Twitter by a United fan who took receipt of one such letter (@RetroRedDevil), this is purported to be a verbatim copy of the message drafted up on Woodward’s behalf by United’s director of communications, Philip Townsend…

We know it’s in the charter and all, but we really hate when clubs pander to self-entitled fans like this. If Pies were heading up United’s email enquiry box all of the sulky fans in question would’ve received the same response…
