Manchester United 1-0 Real Sociedad – Champions League – 23rd October 2013

Soccer - UEFA Champions League - Group A - Manchester United v Real Sociedad - Old Trafford

After all the palavar over Sir Alex Ferguson’s book, it was back to the football pitch for Manchester United on Wednesday night in the Champions League.

The home side got the perfect start when Inigo Martinez sliced a clearance into his own net with just two minutes on the clock. That OG came after Wayne Rooney’s effort had come back off the post and the England man was the star of the show for the Red Devils,  producing a fine display which deserved a goal itself.  However, despite being the better side overall in the game, United failed to kill off the Spaniards.

Antoine Griezmann hit the post with free-kick for Sociedad in the first-half while United’s defence never looked fully comfortable. However, ultimately, David Moyes will be relieved to get a win at home after the disappointing draw against Southampton, with the Red Devils now in pole position for a place in the knockout stages.

The game should have been killed off by United, but it was sorely lacking the fatal blows.

Yeah, United had a few decent chances but let’s not forget this was against a team 12th in the Spanish league.

Which is kinda like the Scottish league.

Okay I exaggerate but the reality is that once United qualify (and I’m certain we will), much tougher opposition will appear.

What will we do against the likes of Milan or PSG if we can barely scrape past Sociedad?

The restructure process will take time. I have faith in Moyes.

Back to winning ways…thanks to an OG…

No worries, United will be back to droppin’ points in the league soon enough!
