Dave’s off on his jollies

In case you managed to miss it while you were darning your socks by candlelight last night, Real Sociedad have appointed David Moyes as their new head coach.

Moyes has signed an 18-month contract at the La Liga side up until the end of the 2015/16 season – with his first official match in charge being against Deportivo on 22nd November.

The job represents Moyes’ first tentative step back into management after his calamitous 10-month stint as Sir Alex Ferguson’s heir at Manchester United was aborted by the club in April.

The 51-year-old Scot replaces Jagoba Arrasate at Sociedad, who was released back into the wild earlier this month with los Erreala (who ended up in 7th spot last season) wallowing down in 15th place.

Good to see Moyes taking the Steve McClaren “far from the madding crowd” approach to edging back into the game.

Very sensible, no?

Mikel Arteta’s already gearing himself up for his January homecoming.

Great to see! I love when Brits go abroad, too many haven’t got the bottle now.

Away from English media, in the hot weather (Factor 60 needed David!) and a decent little side, if he can learn the language and culture then he is laughing…but I can’t help but feel that this is ‘temporary’

What’s “the Chosen one” in Spanish?

  3. Jamie says:

A ginger Scot going to live in Spain. He’ll be The ‘Sunburned’ One soon.

Moyesie will be depressed to learn that breaded ham is not a pintxo item in Donostia!

Davie just a little hint Cahill and yobo are not good signings, good luck from an Everton fan.

Can’t wait to hear the accent!

@B13 via Blendon: Haha, true enough!

I’m sure he’ll pick up the lingo quick enough, he’s a smart guy.

Not a bad move for him at all, rebuild his rep in a country where it’s ok to not be in the top 2 (for obvious reasons).

If he can bring Real Sociedad to the Europa league then it’s mission accomplished.

    What would be next?

I wouldn’t blame him if he chose to stay in Spain. Beautiful weather, relaxed environment, lovely ladies (nothing wrong with window shopping).
