Southampton 1-2 Manchester United – Premier League – 8th December 2014
A Robin Van Persie brace secured a hard-fought win for Manchester United at St. Mary’s on Monday night, a game which the Red Devils were rather lucky to win.
Van Persie opened the scoring after just 12 minutes but the Saints were always in game and eventually levelled when Graziano Pellé netted on the half-hour mark. After the break, the hosts looked the more likely to score, with Shane Long, amongst others, going close. However, a superb finish from Van Persie from a Wayne Rooney free-kick sealed the win for the visitors.
United go third, eight points behind Chelsea, while Ronald Koeman’s Saints drop to fifth.
