Accrington Stanley  have announced that tickets have gone on sale for the League Two side’s glamorous FA Cup third round tie against Manchester United – the only problem being, of course, that United actually met Yeovil in the third round yesterday, winning 2-0 at Huish Park.

Indeed, it was Yeovil that knocked Stanley out at the second round stage, but that hasn’t stopped the Lancashire side putting commemorative tickets for the hypothetical United clash on sale in a bid to raise a bit of much-needed cash.

An announcement on the Stanley website read:

“To mark the club’s FA Cup run, 250 special edition commemorative tickets for the third round tie with Manchester United that would have followed a second-round replay win at Yeovil are being issued and available to buy for just £20 each.

“Those who purchase the commemorative tickets will have their name on a Roll of Honour in the club programme and on the website to recognise their contribution in future.”

According to the club, the plan is to put any funds generated on money towards strengthening the Stanley squad in the January transfer window.

Ingenious.
