Young Bolton left-back Andy Kellett has admitted that he assumed he was being “wound-up” by a mate after Manchester United made an approach for him on transfer deadline day.
Apparently United made the snap decision to sign 21-year-old Kellett on loan for the rest of the season when Bolton boss Neil Lennon made an inquiry about taking United’s Saidy Janko on loan yesterday.
“It’s a great opportunity for Andy,” Lennon told the Guardian.
“We called about Saidy and United asked for him to go the other way.
“He thought it was a wind-up!”
However, it soon panned out that, barring the possibility that there’s still some kind of elaborate hidden camera prank in the pipeline, Kellett’s loan move to Old Trafford is very much kosher…

Given that Mats Hummels was reportedly Louis van Gaal’s primary target, the fact that United instead opted for a 21-year-old left-back with just four senior appearances for Bolton to his name is a bit surprising.
However, it’s not like Kellett is totally unproven – with the youngster scoring this absolutely corking solo goal against Northampton while on loan at Plymouth Argyle in League Two back in December…
