SALIVA HADOUKEN!

After several days of consternation, the FA have decreed this morning that Jonny Evans and Papiss Cisse will serve suspensions of six and seven matches respectively for spitting at each other on Wednesday night.

Cisse accepted the FA charge on Thursday but, despite the fairly damning television footage of the incident, Evans decided to plead not guilty and therefore had his case heard on Friday night.

It mattered little, with the FA pressing ahead and handing out lengthy bans to both parties – Cisse’s being one game longer due to the Senegalese striker having already been sent-off this season.

Five games for racism, seven for spitting. It’s the same old ridiculous quandary.

Anyway, at least we can put this whole sorry tale behind us now…until the next time, of course.

Great news, uniteds defense will be much more solid over the next few weeks

It seems slightly strange that someone admitting to spitting is punished heavier than someone who denied it even though it was pretty obvious it was a lie. Add to that, the fact that Evans spat first, it leads me to think that the FA have got it all wrong…again!

I think Evans spat at Cissé because Cissé had tried to kick him. Which may be why Cissé got an extra game.

Not sure if that makes sense…

It states in the article why Cisse’s ban is longer.

    @ Joe
Yes it does but it’s a stupid reason to give someone an extra ban. The red card would have imposed a ban in itself so it’s akin to being punished twice for the same thing. The FA presumably got involved due to the spitting, and given that Evans denied it, I’d have thought that should be more severely punished than admitting it like Cisse. The notion that Cisse flailing a leg out merits an extra match would also be harsh.
