Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United outplayed Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Saturday, with a 3-1 victory putting the Red Devils eight points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool and looking set for a return to next season’s Champions League.
Tim Sherwood’s Villa started well and it took until just before the break for the hosts to finally make the breakthrough, courtesy of a fine Ander Herrera finish after good work from full-back Daley Blind.
Villa did have chances themselves, with Jores Okore missing a great chance to equalise.
However, on 79 minutes, the hosts deservedly doubled their advantage, courtesy of an outstanding effort from Wayne Rooney…
A stunning strike…
Belgian hitman Christian Benteke did make the final minutes of the game more interesting when he scored after a Joe Cole centre.
However, a second from Herrera at the death secured all three points for the Mancunians.
While the Red Devils cement their place in the top-four, the Villans are now just three points above the drop-zone. Here’s the highlights…
