Transfer Balls: Rounding up the day’s football tittle-tattle so you don’t have to…

Rodgers Praying For Christian Power

On a rather slow day for chunky transfer rumours, the Mirror report that Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke could be nearing a move to Liverpool The newspaper quotes the Belgian’s team-mate, Leandro Bacuna, who suggests the in-form striker is nearing the exit door at Villa Park, with Anfield the expected destination.

Benteke has flourished under Tim Sherwood but Villa’s King of the Gilet is apparently ready to cash in on his star striker in order to aid a summer strengthening of his squad. As for Brendan Rodgers, he’ll be desperate to add firepower to his impotent strikefore after a disappointing campaign.

Drogba Set To Leave Blues On A High

Fresh from winning yet another Premier League title, Chelsea’s legendary striker Didier Drogba may be leaving Stamford Bridge again in the summer. The Evening Standard speculates that the Ivorian hitman is enjoying his last few games for the Blues before departing, basing all this on Drogba’s response to a Sky Sports question which asked about his future.

“This one is sweet. I am happy to be part of this, but Chelsea will always be bigger than me”, saod Drogba. “What now? A good rest, a good celebration and I will see.” At 37-years-old, the forward’s playing days are indeed surely coming to an end, although he may still stay at Stamford Bridge in a coaching role.

Villa Eye Hull Defender Robertson

According to the Mirror again, Aston Villa (again) are planning a summer move for Hull’s attack-minded full-back Andrew Robertson. The 21-year-old former hull man has impressed this season since making the move to the KC Stadium from Dundee for just £2.85million. Now, Villa boss Tim Sherwood is determined to secure the services of the defender.

Sherwood’s transfer plans will all depend on whether they dodge the drop this month, although even if the Villans do secure their top-tier status again (something they should really do now), they’ll face a lot of competition for Robertson from a number of Premier League clubs.

The best/worst of the rest:

Arsenal’s veteran duo of Tomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini could be set for a summer exit from the Emirates, the Gunners are also nearing that much-discussed move for Barcelona’s Pedro while Manchester United could use Adnan Januzaj as part of a deal fro PSV’s Memphis Depay.
