While a continent slept soundly in its beds, Manchester United went out and made another bloody signing last night, bringing in Argentinian international goalkeeper Sergio Romero on a freebie…

Romero was a free agent after being let go by Sampdoria at the end of last season and joins United on a three-year deal as a direct replacement for the seemingly outbound Victor Valdes.

The 28-year-old stopper has 62 caps for his country but has struggled for consistency throughout his domestic career since leaving AZ Alkmaar (where he was coached by one Aloysius Paulus Maria van Gaal) in 2009.

In short: He’s fine as back-up, though you wouldn’t want to rely on him too regularly.
