Goals from Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata secured all three points at Old Trafford on Saturday against a stubborn West Brom side.

Lingard started on the flanks, with Memphis Depay left on the bench as the Red Devils looked to end a two-game goal-drought in the Premier League.

However, unsurprisingly, Tony Pulis’s visitors were stalwart in defence and limited their hosts to just one shot on target, courtesy of Anthony Martial.

Wayne Rooney once again struggled to provide a cutting-edge for the hosts in his role just behind Martial.

However, soon after the re-start the breakthrough eventually came for the Red Devils, with youngster Lingard producing a superb curling effort on 52 minutes which beat Boaz Myhill in the Baggies’ goal.

West Brom tried to get themselves back into the game, with sub Saido Berahino heading over from close-range when the striker really should have scored.

Then, at the death, Martial was felled in the box by Gareth McAuley (who saw red for the challenge), leaving Juan Mata to fire home from the penalty spot and get United back to winning ways in the top-flight.

The win sees Louis van Gaal’s charges go fourth in the table, while extending their run without conceding a goal in any competition to 555 minutes. As for the Baggies, they go 13th after another decent defensive yet ultimately point-less display.
