Bournemouth’s maiden Premier League campaign has been quite a baptism of fire for Eddie Howe’s hardworking side. However, a shock win away to champions Chelsea saw the south-coast side escape the relegation zone, at least for the time-being. And local paper, the Daily Echo, seems to have let the club’s comparative success go to their heads, claiming that 68% of the world’s population (5 billion individuals) will tune in to see the Cherries take on Manchester United in Saturday’s televised late game…

One imagines that rather less than five billion people on this planet of ours even have access to a telly, so it does look as though the Echo have got a little bit over-excited. Then again, the Bournemouth hacks are no strangers to over-the-top outpourings, as witnessed by their post-match coverage of that win against Chelsea…

Anyway, one doubts the dull brand of football currently espoused by Louis van Gaal an co. is going to have even those of us lucky enough to have a TV flocking to watch the top-tier clash at all.
