In what is a rather juicy story, the Independent  report that ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is desperate for a go in the Old Trafford hot-seat, to the point that he’s even written a six-page letter to Manchester United outlining why he is the right man to replace Louis van Gaal.

Apparently, while initially not wanting to offend van Gaal, who he worked under at Barcelona, Mourinho has now decided to throw caution to the wind and contact the Old Trafford big-wigs about a possible move.

Indy journo Miguel Delaney claims that in the six-pager, the ex-Special One, who was sacked by Chelsea in December, pledges to change to a more attacking style to please the disgruntled Old Trafford faithful. While the tome also apparently includes detailed analysis on where the Red Devils are currently going wrong and what Mourinho will do to improve the situation.

While Mourinho brings with him a wealth of experience and the odd trophy or two, even the Indy article itself questions whether the 52-year-old’s playing style (despite his ‘ I can change’ assurances in the letter), his poor track record in youth development and his recent controversies would make him a less-than-ideal fit for United.

On the other hand, he’s sure to do better than van Gaal, isn’t he? And what a story it would be if he did finally secure his dream job!
